Iosipescu Shear Test Fixture GZ IS-20

Our Iosipescu shear test fixture was designed specifically for testing shear properties of composite materials according to ASTM D 5379 in any general purpose tensile testing machine. This shear test fixture is meant for quasi static testing of composite materials with any fibre orientation as specified in the ASTM standard.

The shear test method according ASTM D 5379 (Iosipescu shear test) is a non-symmetric loaded 4-point bending test. The specimen is applied into the fixture and loaded by to profiles moving in a relative movement to each other. The loads are transferred via four contact areas into the specimen. A v-notch defines the area of failure in the specimen. The material stress in the specimen is a shear force with lateral components. Although this method was not originally designed for composite materials and does offer some shortcoming, one of the advantages of the Iosipescu test is that it is a simple and easy to do test. Materials with single or multiple fibre orientations can be used with this method.
