The flexural test using the aerospace standard DIN EN ISO 2562 is a 3-Point-flexural test for the characterization of flexural properties of unidirectional carbon fibre reinforced composite thermosettings or thermoplasts (glass fibre: see EN 2746). The test is conducted at constant speed until failure, while deformation as controlled by load is monitored. The rectangular and flat samples can be manufactured out of the center piece of a standard multi-purpose specimen. The length of the samples is parallel to fibre orientation.

To prevent failure and deformation due to shear stress the span length of the fixture must be large as compared to the length of the specimen (80% of the lenght of specimen).

Please note: The flexural modulus determined using this method can be used only as guide value to the actual Young’s modulus.
